Ecobulb project
In 2006 the Southland Electric Power Supply Consumer Trust and The Power Company joined the Invercargill City Council, Electricity Invercargill and the Electricity Commission to fund a 6 week energy efficient light bulbs campaign. The project offered consumers in the Southland region the opportunity to purchase Ecobulbs at a substantially reduced cost.

The successful project was conceived and managed by Energy Mad, an innovative Christchurch company. Energy Mad posted a direct mail envelope, letter and voucher offering 5 Ecobulbs for $10 to around 39,000 The Power Company and Electricity Invercargill electricity consumers.

Households were encouraged to replace their 5 most often used standard light bulbs for 5 energy-saving Ecobulbs and in doing so could save up to $500 on their power bill over the lifetime of the bulbs.

EcobulbsEcobulbs continue to be available in 20 watt and 15 watt screw and bayonet fittings. The 20 watt Ecobulb is equivalent to a 100 watt ordinary bulb and the 15 watt Ecobulb is equivalent to a 75 watt bulb. Ecobulbs use 80% less power than ordinary lightbulbs and are brighter, smaller and last longer than other energy saving lightbulbs.

The Consumer Institute rated Ecobulbs highly www.consumer.co.nz.
